There have been a lot of conversation on what people should expect from the first jQueryNYC meetup. I’m hoping this blog post will help you all understand that better.

Since this is the first meeting, there will be a good amount of logistics and talking about what we hope this group will evolve into in the future.

There will be one talk given by Adam (@hikirsch) about plugin development and overall JavaScript architecture. This talk will be about an hour with questions and answers at the end.

We are hoping that the lightning talks will also inspire people to talk about things that interest them. We want this meetup to be about what the community wants to talk about, not the people organizing it.

We were also able to have Ogilvy provide us with snacks and drinks for the event! We are very happy that they’ve been so helpful in organizing this event!

First, I must say that I am very excited for this event! I’m hoping you all are as well and that you find it very informative.

As part of the first meeting, we would like to invite any speakers that would like to perform a lightning talk. For those that do not know, a lightning talk is a quick 5min talk about any topic that the speaker wishes to talk about. There is NO question/answer period at the end and is simply a quick talk to give an overview about a topic that they are interested in.

If you would like to participate, please leave a comment with your name and the topic of choice. If there is already a talk given by someone else, please do NOT let that hesitate you in giving your own talk.

We are still in the process of finalizing the agenda and depending on how many people sign up to talk, we will be planning the agenda. Please have your topics submitted by Monday, October 26th by 6PM so that we will have enough time to plan the event accordingly.

We encourage everyone to participate in these talks since we would like to get YOUR feedback and talk about topics that interest you and not necessarily the people involved in the planning of these events. If anyone has any questions or concerns about their talk, feel free to contact any of us.

See you all soon!!

jQueryNYC

ogilvy_theatreFollowing up after the jQuery Conference 2009 we felt it would benefit everyone in the NY area to start an official jQuery NYC Group. We’ll be talking about all things jQuery, ranging from plug-ins, to best practices, to whatever anyone feels it’s worth talking about. Our first gathering will be sponsored and hosted by Ogilvy & Mather on October 28th  from 6-10pm. There was a huge response from the community about starting this group so we’re really looking forward to a great turnout.

If anyone has any topics or focuses that they would like to discuss please contact @jQueryNYC, @hikirsch or @mpaige via Twitter.  If you’re definitely planning on attending please let us know since we’d like to make as accurate a headcount as possible. We are still in the process of setting up the logistical stuff for this group such as emails, an official logo, etc.  so check back for updates.
